im a bad blogger.

sorry to all of you out there in blog land.

march has been a crazy month for me, and i have been very bad at keepin up with my blog! i hope to get caught up soon. share some news, some pics, have some rants, express some excitement.... all in due time.

until then, i am busily working on preparing myself for graduation -- completing my projects, working on my portfolio, and researching design studios in nyc in hopes of applying for a job or finding freelance work and/or internship for when i graduate.

sheesh. where has the time gone? im also about a month behind on my photo a day -- i HAVE the photos (well, like 95% of them) i just havent posted them. maybe this weekend people.

hope all is well in your lives.

chicago + st pattys #2 + surprise!

On Friday I travelled to Chicago to surprise Kirby, one of my best friends. Our other best girls were in town -- Kristin, Kimber bean, Hales, and Al and they were all in on the secret. The plan was that I would arrive Friday night, take the train to Kirbys house, and tada! surprise her. BUT my plane was running late, and the girls were heading to a party and kirby was getting antsy and wondering why they hadn't left yet and why everyone insisted on hanging around at her place. I finally got there, after allison insisted I take a cab, and then graciously paid for it for me (i so owe you al)... when i pullled up, kim and allison were outside and my cabbie said -- Look! they are already drinking. hahaha. i mean it was like 10pm. no biggie. even more no biggie that they were drinking the fine wine by carlo de rossi - from the jug. class class class! :D

I walked in the door behind kim and allison and just stood there staring at kirby until she made eye contact with me. ahhhhh!! she finally noticed me and jumped up and we both got so excited! i was so happy that i was able to make it to chicago and surprise her!!

friday night we went to a friend of kirbys for a house party - there were jello shots - which brought me back to tcu parties and/or some family functions (ha. i lvoe my fam). we got to bed early friday night to prep for saturday...

saturday was a loooong day .

we all woke up early. showered, got ready and determined our irish nicknames (your middle name plus your fathers name with a o' or Mc in front of it - hence i was ALLISON O'THOMAS), got decked out with gear from oriental trading - necklaces, buttons, hats, stickers, belts, suspenders, etc. and then let the day begin!

we had such a fun day. hanging out, playing games, playing beer pong, basking in the sun (yes it turned out to be a gorgeous day in chi town). we finished the evening up at plan b where kirby often works at and danced danced danced. i also made a new friend whom i sat on the curb talking to for about 30 min giving him life advice. i felt obligated once i called him a leprachaun to my friend, and then felt the need to tell him of course i didnt mean him and then he proceeded to ask me for advice from a girl point of view.. blah blah. it ended with me telling him that if he ever wants to find a nice girl he really needs to stop being an a-hole and to grow up already. he actually agreed and appreciated my advice. ANYHOW.

we woke up early sunday and said our goodbyes to kris and kim (they were driving back to STL). then we went for lunch at hollywood diner, where we sat in the booth that appeared to be themed with the beatles...and gone with the wind... i had the yuppie joe omelette (what??) but seriously considered getting the gypsy banquet omelette (yes im serious it was called that). then we ventured to wrigley field. took a few pics, bought my dad a tshirt then we headed to sweet mandy b's to satisfy our sweet tooth cravings.

the rest of the afternoon consisted of saying our goodbyes to allison, walking her to the train...hanging around the house, then walking haley to the train. then me kirbs and her roomie andie watched 'the changeling ' with angelina jolie -- it was pretty good. sad and intense, and if you are a mom and you watch it, you WILL cry.

this morning we woke up early, rob (kirbys boyfriend who i was ECSTATIC to finally meet) dropped us at the train station where we said our goodbyes -- i headed for o'hare and kirbs headed to work.

it was SUCH AN AWESOME weekend. i love those girls so very much and i think it is so wonderful that even though we all live in different places that we are able to see each other so often. i miss our days in fort worth when we could be together anytime and all the time - but our reunions are just as sweet and i am always counting down and looking forward to the next time we are together -- DESTIN, FLORIDA -- memorial day 09 -- hooray!!

[[more photos to come... eventually..]]

conquered hump day.

my melina passed this onto me in an email today that read 'this is you and me kid'... ha i think it's hilarious! shout out to our girlfriends and our wine & technology addictions....

Last night, my friend and I were sitting in the living room,
and i said to her:

'I never want to live in a vegetative state, dependant on some machine and fluids from a bottle. If that ever happens, just pull the plug.'

She got up, unplugged the computer, and threw out my wine.

She's such a bitch.

mr. and mrs. andre

Love is patient, love is kind.
It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.
It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered,
it keeps no record of wrongs.
Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.
It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
Love never fails.

weekend getaway success

i am sitting at the airport in sa (dont worry, my flight is delayed to dfw, and i had to get on a different flight to lga, which puts me in during rush hour, which equals an even larger cab fare. excellent). i had a wonderful weekend in san antonio. the andre wedding was beautiful and such a success. i am so happy for timmy and jenna. they are so cute and i am so excited for the two of them and this new life that they are beginning together. it was awesome to see friends that i havent' seen in awhile. i will ahve to post pictures when i get a chance - i didnt get to take as many as iw anted, but i still got a few good ones. and the weather, though colder than i expected, was beautiful. it's bright and sunny out right now, and the sky is clear... i am dreading going back to the cold in ny. there was a snow storm last night - supposed to be the largest of the season. ahhhhh. i am cold just thinking about it.

i have a busy week ahead of me - but i have some motivation to get through it all, and that is the fact that jon is coming to nyc on friday!!! i am SO excited. we have been planning stuff to do, and mostly will justbe hanging out and enjoying the city. hooray. so exciiiiiited.

okay we are boarding now. i am ready to fall asleep and take a nap. i am EXHAUSTED.

bean and cheese count of the weekend = 4.

make my logo bigger

jena shared this with me today -- i think it is hilarious.

also, i just read on thedieline.com that tropicana is going back to its original packaging design! whooooooweee. kinda cool that this major corporation is valuing the feedback of its consumers. look at that. pretty cool.

alright. i am kind of boring right now. whatev. just trying to get through this week -- and be ultra productive to get caught up/get ahead so that this weekend while i am home i can just rest and playyyy and have no worries about assignments.

SIX DAYS TILL JENNA AND TIMMYS WEDDING!!

boys on FB. mini bottles of wine. and packaging.

to check out the 20 male poses of facebook click here. it is pretty funny and pretty accurate. makes me think of LOTS of different guys here and there and what their facebook profile pictures say of them. i think it would be pretty humorous to see the female version. :D

as for me, i am in for the night. hanging with my melina. drinking some wine. and working out my logos for packaging. i am creating a brand identity for wine... and needless to say, after class today i was quite frustrated. so here is me putting some effort and trying to work this out. i will maybe eventually post my final labels. or maybe i should get that website of mine updated... i think that sounds better.

well. back to work. hope yall are having a great friday.

a link to style.com where you can see the whole collection -- professional photographers = MUCH BETTER THAN MINE so check those out. yea these are a few that i took. but they're mostly blurry and not so great. but im sharing them anyhow. :)

also, i saw brad (rachel zoe's assistant) in pax this morning before the show! i didnt think anything of it until mo had mentioned something about rachel zoe at dinner tonight and it clicked and i remembered i had seen him when i was getting coffee. ah. i knew those glasses and that bow-tie looked familiar! very neat.

i found this pic on the internet, it's a lot better and close up. look how pretty they look in lela! p.s. thats's my friend kathleen in the background on the left!

[[kellie pickler(american idol), allison brie (madmen), jennifer love hewitt, and brittany snow (john tucker must die, hairspray).]]

super sunday

it is an absolutely gorgeous day and it has been filled with all sorts of delight. it's fashion week in new york city and this morning i met my friends at the tents at bryant park for the lela rose fashion show. we checked in, and received our 'standing room only' cards and waited in line. when we got into the salon, it was exciting to find out that we were going to be able to get a seat (and of course a goodie bag :). the music playlist was AWESOME. i am obsessed with the opening song that began with whistling birds, and the upbeat song 'we just want to have a good time tonight. we just want to have a good time allll the time!! i love the fuschia and purples. they were magical and wonderful. i also absolutely loved the gorgeous dresses (the gold was fantastic!) that the show ended with.

it was also, as always, wonderful to see my little melina out their workin and doin her thing. she works so hard at her job and its so great to see the show and to see all of her (and of course all of the awesome crew at lela rose) hardwork pay off. thanks for the chance to see a beautiful show mo mo! i loved it.

after the show we headed to the upper west side for brunch at calle ocho (again) and loved it. im glad rachel was there with me bc she accompanied me on all four of my trips to the sangria bar (thanks rach :) ). after brunch we all went and scoped out this great flea market. annie and i discovered THE COOLEST hand made rings. they were huge and fabulous and made of woven wire. yea i had no money, but i got the guys card and plan on getting in touch with him in the future!

it was time to go when we discovered that nate and chinae had found a nestling spot laying on the large beautiful rugs that a vendor was selling.... check out time.

now im home. relaxing. trying to be productive until church starts. welp that is in like an hour and a half... so i guess it will be more relaxing, and less working. oh well.

cheers to a beautiful sunday

p.s. i will upload pics when i get em uploaded from the cam...

All truth is one.
In this light, may science and religion endeavor together for the steady evolution of Mankind:
From darkness to light,
From narrowness to broadmindedness,
From prejudice to tolerance,
It is the voice of life that calls us
To come and learn.

[[i recommend going to my playlist and placing it on pause while you listen to this fabulous man speak]]

my boyfriend told me about a video clip he watched in class today where a man named clifford stoll spoke. he told me to check it out, and said that i didnt have to watch the whole thing - just to look up the video clip and see what this guy was all about. well. i can say i watched the whole entire thing. this man is absoultely fascinating! and entertaing for sure. he has the most brilliant mind and i love the way he hops and skips about the stage the same way his words and thoughts are rattled off. you can practically see this man's creativity bursting from his pores. i thought it was way cool and thought i would post this video for you all to check out. maybe i would have paid more attention in 8th grade science if i had this guy as my teacher! :D

p.s. i updated my photo-a-day. it's lookin better, layout wise. i still need to add the captions and find a better way to scroll through them. my mom commented that the slideshow version was easier for her bc she could just watch them and not have to click through... sorry mom... you're going to have to face your technology fears and just brace yourself through my new setup :) love you! {oh thats to my mom. and to whoever may be reading this - sure why not.}

xoxo people.

Sunday, February 8, 2009

oh, hey also!

check out the link to my 'photo-a-day' project. it's over on the left in the side column. i will be updating it as soon as i can... it took me long enough to get it in the stage that it is in right now! but, i am much more pleased with it than that slideshow crap (sorry! okay, sorry im not sorry.) blogger set me up with.

alright. im off. its 55 degrees in new york city praise jesus. mo and i are heading out to the chelsea flea market and to walk around and enjoy this gorgeous day.

cheers.

do you know why that little boy did those things? Because he likes you.

mo and i exit the 1 train at 42nd street [[thats times square area for all of you. bright lights. packed sidewalks. and people walking slow as turtles]] and make our way to the regal movie theatre. you may ask WHY ON EARTH we would choose this theatre to meet at... well it's the most central location for all the girls that were attending. so we dealt with it.

the movie theatre experience in new york is way different than any other movie theatre experience i have ever had. you buy tickets on the first level [we bought ours on fandango so we printed them out on the first level] head up two escalators and then give the man your ticket. he then instructs you to go to the left (but the theatre is to the right!!) and wait in the long line of people that have gotten there before you (ohhh. i get it now). when it's 'time' the line is allowed to head towards the theatre. [[up two more escalators to theatre 12]]. as we approach the theatre 12, we see there is two entrances (everyone is going in on the right side) hilary shouts to us -- lets try the left side! mo, hilary and i proceed to RUN (yes run) to the left side entrance. we make it inside and discover this plan was brilliant bc the left side of the theatre is mostly empty and the people are slowly filtering their way across from the right side. we find two rows, throw off our coats and purses, throw them onto the seats as we frantically count out 16 (yes 16...which i knew um, 8 of) seats for the total of girls we have coming. whoooo. what a crazy rush. it was literally a mad dash for seats! we then had to tell people over and over that the seats were saved (duh, our coats are strewn across them and our purses are placed strategically on the row).

it was hilarious. never have i ever RAN to a theatre, nor saved seats so quickly and desperately. but anyways - the movie was great. totally a movie you want to see with your girlfriends (girlfriends, do not drag your poor boyfriends to this movie...) and laugh as you relate to each and every character... whether it be because of something you have done in the past, or because one of the characters is exactly like a friend of yours. i liked that it was a chick flick, but not like teeny bopper high school style. though it could be enjoyed by the younger crowd, it was aimed towards the older college- and post college crowd (check. thats us).

after the movie we headed to rachels apt to hang. kathleen thought it would be great to get a dvd, and as we walked into this one movie store, she said that if they have 'girls just want to have fun' she wiill totally buy it. well it turns out this movie store just may have had titles called 'girls just want to have fun' but they were NOT in the section that we were willing to sift through. ew. we left quickly and found success at blockbuster (ahhh. excellent.)

rachels apartment is so adorable. we all cozied up in the living room and laughed through 'girls just want to have fun' and relived those classic 80s details.

it was a fullout complete girls night. and it was just what i needed. besides my ticket itself (um yes that is $12.50 in new york city people) i spent only $4 last night. (two $2.00 one way fares on the MTA paid in full with quarters, nickels and dimes. oh my gosh i just admitted that. WHATEVER. i like to make use of my coins!)

“I had this guy leave me a voice mail at work, so I called him at home, and then he emailed me to my BlackBerry, and so I texted to his cell, and now you just have to go around checking all these different portals just to get rejected by seven different technologies. It’s exhausting.”

eighteen degrees.

i am freezing cold. holy cow. seriously very cold. i need to learn to layer better bc i was absolutely freezing today on my walk home. i am so glad tomorrow is friday. this week has been long. last night i went to the new york city ballet with serena, a girl who is in the same graphic design program as me. she had been telling me about this student discount you can get on tickets and i thought it sounded like a great idea. yesterday when we found out our night class was cancelled she invited me to go with her. it was really cool. we got orchestra seats -- and they were only $12. it began with Stravinksy Violin Concerto, then La Valse, and then it ended with West Side Story Suite. It all was awesome and so beautiful. hopefully i will get to take advantage of this student discount a few more times before the season ends!
