it was not until i was blowdrying my hair that i noticed these awful markings on my arms - as soon as i saw them, my mind flashed back to last night, and i remembered at one point being extremely itchy. like so uncomfortably itchy, i was besides myself. but then again, me being the deep sleeper than i am, i got my itching in and dove back into my sleep. you can imagine my horror and surprise this morning!! i was freaking out. the one on my right forearm was definitely the worst - it was the most swollen. i rushed to get ready, and set out to pratt to get some opinions from my friends as to what to do.
after grossing out everyone in the lab (im sure) i ended up going across the street to duane reade to see what the pharmacist recommended - she said i needed to get them checked out by a dr asaply bc they could get bigger, hotter, more swollen and could potentially cause me to get sick. AH! so i went back to pratt, reported the news, and set off to st vincents hospital. with my buddy adri. of course. oh. but not without first stopping by and getting a pizza for the walk from the social that i missed....
the triage at the emergency room was RIDICULOUS. adri and i waited, and waited, and waited. played on my ipod. pretended to work on stuff for class. and observed the diversity that encompasses the waiting room in a nyc public hospital. wow. i can't even put into words. one man was so ridiculous and caused such an uproar, that he was escorted out by three security men - he didnt go without a fight! they were brawling on the floor all the way out the door. it was insane. adri left to head to class, and i continued to wait. my name was FINALLY called (like 3 hours later), i went to the nurses station, where they took my vitals, checked me in, then sent me on my way to the 'fast track' waiting room. bah. there i waited another 45 minutes or so before i was placed in a room where the dr and nurse could examine my bites.
after some med rx, more waiting, and then finally completing paperwork, i was discharged, and headed back to pratt for back to back classes - which was extremely difficult today considering the benadryll....
so enough of that horrible spider talk. tonight i got to talk on the phone to one of my oldest and dearest friends, ashley. we met in elementary school and were in girl scouts together! then went to m.s. and on to h.s. together. she is teaching 2nd grade at our old elementary school! so cool. we had some good laughs recalling memories from those good ole days.
now i need to get some work done, bc i jsut took some more benadryll...and that sleepiness should be setting in...any...minute....
ciao people
*** p.s. please don't be fooled by my title - yes, bed bugs are a real thing, and yes they are prevalent in nyc, and yes they are more awful than what i have experienced. i am almost positive it's not b.b's cuz its JUST on my arms... hmm. please cross your fingers and pray for me that its just spider bites and will heal stat!!
